Application and Utilization of ICT in Educational Management and Students’ Academic Commitments in Nigerian Public Universities

With the growing trend of digital literacy in the 21st-century workplace, integrating Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into educational settings has become imperative. Thus, this study investigates the application and utilisation of ICT in educational management and students’ academic commitment in public universities in Ekiti State, Nigeria. A descriptive survey research design was adopted, involving 100 randomly selected Educational Management
students from three universities in Ekiti State: Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti State University (EKSU) and Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology (BOUESTI). Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analysed using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation. The findings revealed that although various ICT tools such as learning management systems, digital libraries and online collaboration platforms are present, their availability and adequacy are limited. Despite infrastructural and technical constraints, students demonstrated strong digital literacy and acknowledged the
benefits of ICT in enhancing their learning experiences, access to resources, collaboration and readiness for the digital workplace. Statistical analysis showed significant positive relationships between ICT application and students’ academic commitment. The study concluded that while ICT holds transformative potential in educational management, greater investment in infrastructure, faculty training and policy implementation is needed to maximise its effectiveness.
